WeatherToFly

About Us

The idea came about whilst Julie Redfern and her friend Alice were out walking. Alice explained that, when considering possible destinations for a short break, a pilot friend of hers would always look at the long range weather forecast first, then look at possible flight options to where the weather looked promising.

When you are thinking about taking a quick break at short notice one of the most important things is the weather, not necessarily the destination. Julie thought “I need an app for that”, so she and her developers started work on this idea.

The only decisions you have to make are; where you are flying from; the date you are travelling and how long you are happy to fly for. The app does the rest for you by looking at available flights matching your selection and then sorts these by the best weather.

But how do we ‘score’ the weather?

Julie decided to calculate the answer by giving each day a score based on the weather forecast and then the app calculates a total score for your trip.

Sunny/Clear skies = 8
Overcast = 4
Fog/Mist = 2
Drizzle = 1.5
Rain = 1
Snow = 0
Thunderstorm = 0

Click on the selector on the left to toggle the sort order of your results from weather to cost.

If you are happy to do so, please provide your email address so we can email your results to you.

Once you’ve chosen your destination, the app shows you flight and hotel options for your trip. Our travel partners are ATOL protected. To keep weathertofly free, please follow the links we provide as we receive a small commission from the booking site - that’s how the service is funded.

Obviously we can’t guarantee there will be no change to the weather. Our forecast covers 16 days ahead using the best weather information available at the time of booking, but we can’t held responsible if the weather changes before your trip.
